City tour in Gravina di Puglia

Visiting Gravina di Pugia is a necessary step for anyone who wishes to know and understand the entire region of Puglia.

The city, which rises from the nearby Gravina stream, features an antique history, from human presence during the Paleolithic era through to more consistent populations durng the Neolithic era, when the first communities found refuge in the many cavities on the side walls of the ravine. Here there are also numerous cave churches, among which is one belonging to San Michele, patron saint of the city. The name of the city for some comes from the ravine on which it develops, while for others from the motto "Grana dat et vina", which is attributed to King Frederick II of Sweden, who called the city a "garden of delights".
