The city where no one is a stranger! A crowded cast fights to hold the title of founder of the city: the Iapygians, the Arcadians and the Cretans. Bari presents a myriad of stories and legends that bridges the city between east and west, the gateway to the Adriatic.
From medieval times, Bari has lived such a life of opulence that the chronicler Ugo Falcando said of it "prepotens Apuliae civitas, fame celebris, opibus polens, nobilissimis superba civibus, aedificiorum structura mirabilis", which means “Powerful city, famous, very rich in men and means, admirable for the architecture of the buildings”. In fact, the historic centre of Bari today offers a grand patrimony comprised of about thirty medieval churches from the 16th century and baroque times. There are two basilicas - San Nicola and San Sabino, both patrons of the city - the Norman Swabian castle and numerous archaeological finds such as necropolis, walls, churches and squares which confirm the ancient history of the Apulian capital.
